“I’m convinced that most people know why they love music and want to study it, but in the study of the technique of the art it is easy to lose sight of the why. The way to teach music, to my way of thinking, is to remember at all times that technique is not a goal but the means to the goal. Technique exists only to serve music, and techniques have evolved and changed in order to express new ideas in music. Of course, sometimes it is necessary to isolate a technical problem in order to solve it, to work it through, but even then it is better to link it to a musical thought than to let the technical problem become “the point” ”
節自The Mind’s Ear 前言,Bruce Adolphe著
